DIY Almond Milk

A DIY plant based milk without the hidden nasties!

Plant based milks have become increasingly popular over the last few years, you've probably noticed the growing range at your local coffee shops. The problem is many store bought varieties contain sneaky added ingredients such as sweeteners, preservatives, synthetic vitamins & minerals & between ONLY 2-10% of the ingredient used to make the milk. If your swapping to a plant based milk from dairy milk and worried your lacking the calcium you can add a good quality vegan calcium. I use the powdered one from Vitus One Life. It's made from Lithothamnium calcareum, a calcium rich sea vegetable! It doesn't have a flavour and blends well. So now you are aware of all this it's time to Do It Yourself, its super simple & wont contain any hidden nasties PLUS you can use the left over almond meal to make your own protein balls (recipe coming soon...) INGREDIENTS: 1 C Organic almonds 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt 1 L Filtered water (plus more for soaking) 4 tsp Vegan calcium (Optional) METHOD: Cover 1C of organic almonds ( in bowl of filtered water with a pinch of Himalayan salt overnight. In the morning drain & rinse until the water runs clear. Now, I put mine into a kuvings juicer with 1L of filtered water but don't worry if you don't have one you can throw the nuts & water into a high-speed blender for 3-5 mins depedning on the strength of your blender Strain through a nut-milk bag into a glass jug. If your adding calcium, mix this in now Store in the fridge for up to 4 days Stay tuned for some more plant based milk recipes coming your way ;)
